Solange Farkas a Jury member at the African Biennale of Photography
At the invitation of this edition’s art director Bisi Silva, of Nigeria, Solange Farkas will be part of the jury of the 10th African Biennale of Photography – Rencontres de Bamako. Following a 4-year break, the event will take place in the Malian capital again from October 31 to December 31.
Besides the Pan-African exhibition featuring 39 artists shortlisted from an open call for entries, the Biennial will include themed and monographic exhibits, workshops and lectures, which, according to Silva, “expand upon the possibilities of discourse regarding the notion of time.” Part of the program will focus on art from Portuguese-speaking countries and pay tribute, among other artists, to Ayrson Heráclito, a staple of Videobrasil’s festivals and collection. The video Funfun (2012), which earned the artist a residence award from the 18th Festival, is presented in the exhibit.
In 2011, Bisi Silva travelled to São Paulo at the invite of the 17th Festival held by Videobrasil and Sesc São Paulo. On the occasion, the curator spoke with the public about the role of curatorial actions in the drawing of new maps of Southern production.
