In the 1970s, as the art-technology alliance took its first strides in Brazil, Rafael França innovated through his use of photocopies. In the 1980s, he was a pioneer of video art, subverting and creating new forms of fictions with plenty autobiographical references. This documentary features footage of the artist, excerpts from works, and statements from the fine artist Regina Silveira, his main supporter, scholar Arlindo Machado, and Mario Ramiro and Hudnilson Jr., with whom he formed the 3NÓS3 trio in 1970. Born in the state of Rio Grande do Sul in 1957, França had his career cut short prematurely by AIDS in 1991. His final work was the impactful Prelude to an Announced Death, completed a few days before his passing, in which he confronts his impending demise. English and Spanish subtitles.
