A landmark of the contemporary artistic and intellectual scene, the Cuban-born, American-based Coco Fusco discusses the culture clash in essays, videos, installations and performances. In Coco Fusco: I Like Girls in Uniform, the new documentary in the Videobrasil Authors Collection series, director Wagner Morales borrows elements from Fusco’s work and commonplace fragments of daily life to introduce viewers to her complex universe of art theories and practices. Shot in New York and São Paulo, the film revisits Fusco’s career as a professor, activist, performer and researcher, and follows her through the process of creating Bare Life Study #1, a performance based on tortures inflicted by the American military that the artist presented during the 15th Videobrasil International Electronic Art Festival (2005). English and Spanish subtitles.
