The communication project behind Joseph Beuys' foundational work is the underlying theme of the publication that takes as its starting point his retrospective in São Paulo, which featured posters, multiples and videos created between 1964 and 1986. The collected essays delve deeper into key aspects of Beuys' path and conceptions. The curator Antonio d'Avossa examines the context of intense exchange and collaboration in which the production of Beuys' multiples and posters takes place; a unique visual statement of this period is present in the images of the photographer Digne M. Marcovicz. The theory of social sculpture based on botany, which the artist used in his strategies and procedures, is commented by Volker Harlan. And Rainer Rappmann, creator of the Free International University, deals with the actions that extend the artist's work beyond his death, in 1986.
