Portuguese show focuses South African tensions
Apartheid in South Africa ended 20 years ago. Since then, resulting shifts in politics and social organization have affected the entire region, bringing unprecedented challenges which potentially threaten the hopes born just a short time ago.
Due to open on June 21, the Next Future festival will focus on these tensions through a host of events, including exhibitions, public art, live performances, film screenings, and literary encounters. Leading contemporary thinkers and artists from the south of Africa, including Binyavanga Wainaina (Writer, Kenya), TJ Dema (Poet, Botswana), and Elísio Macamo (Lecturer on African Studies, Mozambique) will soon be in Lisbon to present their ideas and their work at the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation.
