Cuban institute hosts lectures based on the writings of Édouard Glissant

Cuban institution Casa de las Américas hosts, from May 20 to 24, the International Colloquy of Caribbean Cultural Diversity. With the participation of researchers, writers and artists from different countries, the event was conceived based on the writings of Édouard Glissant, whose theories contributed to the comprehension of a pan-Caribbean identity through a rhizomatic vision of culture, the poetics of relation and the discourse on diversity.

The event stands as a deserved tribute to Glissant, who arduously labored in favor of the institution since its inauguration in 1959. Apart from talks by renowned scholars and artists, two exhibitions reexamine the works of Glissant: Región interior: la Otra-América de Glissant-Lam-Cárdenas-Matta studies the relation between the writer and artists Roberto Matta (Chile), Wilfredo Lama and Agustín Cárdenas (both from Cuba); also dedicated to Glissant, a solo show by artist Victo Anicet showcases drawings combined to writings by the Martinican writer.

Participates in the colloquy Andrés I. M. Hernández, Cuban researcher, curator and producer whose master's thesis on the thought of Glissant enlightened the last Encontro Videobrasil | Caribe: arquipélagos para o pensar, which took place on May 14 at Ateliê 397, São Paulo. An account of the event will soon be published in our newspage.
