The Global Art Forum_7 is a major cultural debate platform for the Middle East. This year’s edition, titled IT MEANS THIS, will be directed by writer and editor HG Masters, who lives in Istanbul, commissioned by writer and curator Shumon Basar. The forum will take place in two different locations: first at the Mathaf – Arab Museum of Modern Art, in Doha, Qatar, on March 17 and 18, and then, from March 20 to 23, at the Art Dubai, Madinat Jumeirah, in Dubai. The six-day program will include lectures and debates with artists, musicians, curators, researchers, and writers who will explore and investigate “definitionism”: the proliferation of words, terms, clichés and misunderstandings in the world of art.
The first the Global Art Forum edition was held by Art Dubai in 2007, featuring lectures and performances by leading names in the art world. Ever since, the forum has become an innovative, landmark platform for art discussion, especially concerning Middle Eastern and Asian issues. Currently, the Global Art Forum is promoted by Dubai Culture and Art Authority (Dubai Culture) in partnership with the Mathaf – Arab Museum of Modern Art (Qatar Museums Authority).
