The SESC helds between 19 and 29 July, another edition of Mostra SESC de Artes, with about 70 attractions in the segments of the visual arts, media arts, film, dance, literature, music and theater, and cultural workshops, educational and artistic residencies, in many SESC units in São Paulo city. This edition puts together two groups of selected works: one dedicated to art in electronic media and the other to visual arts in general.

Digital arts

The segment of media art addresses the issue on how art can assign new different meanings to known technological objects. Through installations, performances, exhibitions and workshops, artists from Brazil and abroad address the relationship between what is called contemporary and traditional in art. Artesania of Media selection brings together works by Zaven Paré (France / Brazil), Gebahrd Sengmüller (Austria), Gabriel Menotti (UK / Brazil), Brazilian duo O Grivo and Mexicans Marcela Armas and Ivan Puig. By turning them into works of art, the authors attribute new meanings and uses to objects of our daily lives.

Also part of the media art segment, the Moving Image Show, by Kika Nicoleia, is presented in a container adapted as a mobile screening room. And the project Hybrid Ecology, a work in three parts by Guto Nobrega, focuses on the relationship between machines, plants and men.

The German duo Incite presents audiovisual performances, bringing random pulses compositions that blend with "dancing" grooves and visual effects in grayscale. The French company Omproduck criticizes the illusions produced by current technology in its multimedia show Ça vous regarde, in which a robotic piece interacts with the public.

Visual arts

With installations, interventions and other media works,  the visual arts segment is titled Desobjetos: A memória das coisas, and discusses the ideas of ownership and displacement in artistic production.

An example is the work of Polish artist Agata Olek, which uses crochet to cover objects and people, taking them out of the ordinary condition. French Tania Mourad is another attraction of the visual segment, with the video installation La Fabrique: projections in several TV shows a collection of portraits captured in a village in India.

Among the highlights of the Brazilian show are: Carmela Gross, who features an intervention that combines, in a subtle way, drawing, sculpture and conceptual art; Laura Belém, with video and photographs; Marepe, whose installations use everyday items such as metal iron baskets, rubber chambers, glass bottles and wooden tables; and Nuno Ramos, who was inspired by Paulinho da Viola to create the installation Solidão Palavra, composed by two billboards built on compressed sand.
