Highlights of the 17th International Contemporary Art Festival SESC_Videobrasil on tour around Brazil and Southern circuit

The directions of art production from the South of the globe, featured in the Southern Panoramas show, are the focus of Videobrasil On Tour 2012-2013, which will bring successful experiences of the 17th International Contemporary Art Festival SESC_Videobrasil to SESC units in São Paulo state, beginning by Campinas. São José do Rio Preto (from August 8th until October 7th) and Santos (Nov 10 - Jan 27) are the next stops. Porto Alegre, Recife, Salvador, Quito (Ecuador), and Santa Cruz de la Sierra (Bolivia) are some of the other host cities (stay updated through the On Tour show website schedule).

Out of the sixteen works featured, twelve were awarded by the Festival jury, which evaluated 103 art pieces selected among over 1,000 submissions from all regions of the world’s geopolitical South. Four other pieces were results of the first Videobrasil Open Studio Prize, which commissioned young São Paulo-based artists to create artwork during residencies at the art creation facility Casa Tomada, in that same city.

Just like the Southern Panoramas show held at SESC Belenzinho, São Paulo, in 2011 and 2012, those pieces share the exhibition venue and touch on similar and related issues, even though these are tackled through different artistic operations. By presenting this summed-up version of the Festival to larger, more diverse audiences, Videobrasil broadens the reach of this powerful set of artistic propositions, and their educational potential.
