How much memory do clothes carry?
A deconstructed dress, a bag, a pair of pants. Different items of clothing are laid out in the main hall of the 22nd Biennial Sesc_Videobrasil to be tried on, touched and felt. Mella Jaarsma's interactive installation addresses the issues involved in dressing and undressing.
The artist is interested in thinking about how these actions relate to our history and memory, and how they fit into specific moments in the world, ranging from gestures of revolt to forms of repression. The pieces are hung up and made available to the public. In this way, the work produces bodily modifications of the social space. The work was completed during a residency at the Kaaysá Art Residency.
