"Mulika", by Maisha Maene, invites us into a pyroclastic landscape in the Congolese town of Goma. An alien, an astronaut, crashes his spaceship on the slopes of Mount Nyiragongo, in the crater of the world's largest lava lake. The astronaut wanders back to the city, contemplating his own origins, lost in a long legacy of environmental exploitation and a succession of climate crimes.
The film is a reflection on a distant past and a desperate cry for the conditions of the future. We are called to reflect on the impact of mineral extraction in contexts of exploitation and on the extractive complex of mining that produces technological advances and wars at the same time.
