Home recordings of everyday family life, television footage from the 1980s and VHS glitches make up Julia Baumfeld's "Era". Consisting of five videos and printed frames, the installation is the result of editing raw material from the artist's research into her family's collection of VHS tapes from the 1980s.

From the material, situations and speeches emerge that suggest we approach what is foreign to us and distance ourselves from what is excessively familiar. In this way, personal memory becomes capable of re-signifying collective memory through the process of digitizing, decoupaging and constantly returning to the images in her family archive.
