Referring to photographs taken by Marc Ferrez in 1882, the action alludes to the tensions between the enslaved, desperate for freedom, and the enslaver, who endeavors to withhold it. It is the result of extensive research into slavery worldwide and about the exploitation of the black body in the formation of modern economies. Here, the performer Aphiwe Livi, a frequent collaborator of Modisakeng, subs for the artist.
