CARNET DE VOYAGE

This selection of works features certain recurring elements in contemporary Brazilian videographic culture. One of them is the prominent presence of autobiographical references. The issue of identity is another common thread to all works, as well as the way these issues are tackled - indirectly and without didacticism. This allusion is characterised by the subjective perspective of issues such as displacement, distance and life stories. Here are ten videos of great visual impact, articulated, in their majority, around highly personal questions, skewed towards the construction of identity and of memory as a factor of the construction of such identity. These are works that, by and large, exteriorise feelings with intense poetic appeal. Works range from dialogues about issues of contemporary art to problems brought about by new media. Themes such as the body and urban space rub shoulders with explorations of code, of non-linearity, of play and the creation of new worlds, and new communities. These are works that approach situations such as displacement and the overcoming of its limits. The potentialised situations of movement are the engine that produces a poetic vision, where images of a sensorial memory are fused with images of a external landscape.
