Inventário das pequenas mortes (Sopro) (Inventory of Small Deaths (Blow)) is one of a series of video poems that Guimarães and Neuenschwander have created since the 1990s. The sole protagonist is a huge soap bubble, which floats through the grounds of Guimarães’ family home in the mountains of Minas Gerais, reflecting the surrounding landscape on its surface. The montage repeatedly splices away before the moment of the bubble’s death, keeping the viewer in tense anticipation of the end of its flight and of the melancholy video. The flickering image, shot on Super 8 film, transmits instability and ephemerality. It can be read as a metaphor for loneliness in the contemporary world: superficially rich reality fails to fill the void inside the bubble.
