The work examines the context, politics, and proliferation of different aesthetics of heat. In a sequence of historical and contemporary images and videos, composed of original footage and content taken from pop culture and traditional and social media, Kent Chan reveals the contradictory nature of the narratives and representations associated with regions seen as paradisiacal, but poor, inhabited by a vivacious people, with a dynamic aesthetic, but orderless. At the same time that it captures the vibrancy, vitality and the visual and chromatic complexity commonly fabricated in regard to these regions, the work makes us think about the way in which global warming and its effects have substantially altered not only the landscape and life in these places, but also how it could lead to a future in which the tropical climate would prevail worldwide, producing an eternal summer and blurring climatic, historical and geographic borders.
