Most of the 35,000 Filipinos in Israel are women who live in precarious and makeshift conditions, often working as caretakers of elderly and sick people. In Tel Aviv this community gets together to celebrate their culture, which includes holding Binibining Philippines Israel, a local version of the most important beauty pageant of their country of origin (binibining is Filipino for miss). The installation’s main video shows an edited version of this contest. In the other three videos, Filipino women of this community talk about their lives and daily routine. The installation also features the poster of the 2009 pageant (shown in the main video), a selection of covers of Filipino magazines published in Israel and living room furniture where viewers can sit down to watch the videos as if they were at home (despite being in a public and unfamiliar venue).
