This work stemmed from the project developed by Mendel and Grunvald over two years ago with Stronger, a LGBTQIA/peripheral collective of the city of São Paulo. Projeto Família Stronger [Stronger Family Project] is a transmedia storytelling documentary study of this collective that, like other LGBT families, builds alternative forms of kinship to hegemonic family conceptions essentially rooted in the idea of consanguinity. Rather than blood as a relationship-structuring symbol, these groups form imagined communities and coalitions that are both affective and political. Drawing on images and sounds of one day of shooting, the works interlinks a family gathering for lunch, called Stronger House, with insurgent images of a street demonstration that marked the unsettling contemporary political scene in Brazil in the week of President Dilma Rousseff’s removal from office in 2016.
