A dancer and performer, his earliest experiences with dance were in Umbanda yards. With a bachelor’s degree in dance from Faculdade Angel Vianna in Rio de Janeiro and a master’s degree from the Federal University of Uberlândia, he worked in different dance companies in Belo Horizonte before starting a solo career in São Paulo in the mid-1990s. His work investigates stereotypes related to the black body. He has performed in countries such as Germany, France, Portugal, Croatia, Cuba, Spain, England and Mali, and in various contemporary dance festivals in Brazil. He took part in the Mercosur Biennial, Porto Alegre (2009), and performed the solo dance Travesti [Transvestite] at Mostra Sesc de Dança, São Paulo (2001). His dance performance O samba do crioulo doido [The Crazy Nigger’s Samba] is part of the video dance collection of Centre Georges Pompidou in Paris.
