Guest curator: Cliver Kellner
2000 | SESC Pompeia, São Paulo, SP, Brazil
A vast continent with an unique history, Africa’s contemporary artistic output is as diverse as its constituent nations. In 2000, Associação Cultural Videobrasil brought some of Africa’s most active artists together for the first time in Brazil, in the Contemporary African Art Show. In SESC Pompéia, artists such as William Kentridge, Oladélé Ajiboyé Bamgboyé, Zwelethu Mthethwa, Kendell Geers, Sue Williamson, Fernando Alvim, Tracey Rose, and Jean-Pierre Bekolo have presented unknown works, in an important special curatorship by Solange Farkas, Associação’s director, and South-African art critic Clive Kellner.
